Lost, found and 'borrowed'

We have a LARGE amount of 'lost' property.  Much of this is named gear. Please, check your uniforms, school bags etc and return anything that slipped home by accident.  We'll call it an amnesty - No questions asked.

Easter Hunt For World Youth Day

Tomorrow at lunchtime there will be an Easter Egg Hunt to raise funds for World Youth Day - they are travelling to Poland this year.

Children who want to enter will need to pay $2.  They will need to hunt for sticks. Everyone who enters get a small egg, four lucky hunters will get a bigger bunny egg AND 1 lucky hunter will win a giant chocolate egg.

Teachers are not allowed to enter - blast!!

Reading Night

A huge thank you to the few parents who turned up for our reading night last night.  From the 4 classes involved we had 13 families represented (4 Room 10 families).

These evenings are developed to provide information, support and tools to help you support your child in their learning at home.  For this reason, I will be sending home the handout from the workshop. It includes some prompts to encourage children to figure out 'tricky words' all by themselves.  There is also a list of words that children need to learn by sight.  The more of these words they can recognise instantly the easier reading becomes for them.  If you have any questions, please come and see me or flick me an email.

The magic word is: 'team'
There will be a small prize for anyone who whispers the magic word to Mrs T by Thursday morning.  Shhhhhh! Don't tell anyone.

Rice Lunch, Mufti and Jesus Clothes

Reminder:
Tomorrow (Friday 27th March) we have a mufti day.  Children have been asked to dress in the colours of the Philippines flag and bring a gold coin donation.  This will go to Caritas for their wonderful work.

We also have our Palm Sunday Parade.  Children are allowed to bring clothes like Jesus wore for this.  A dressing gown or a large t-shirt with a rope belt is fine.

AND we have a rice lunch.  Juniors can bring morning tea.  Can you please also bring a cup/bowl and a spoon/fork for lunch.  Well named or disposable, please.

Thanks Heaps!

Week 8

It is a swimming week this week - bring your togs!

Hold on to your hats - it's going to be a busy week!!!

Mon: Middle and senior children at Swimming Sports - so we are             the big kids. No ordered lunches at school today.

Tue:

Wed: Go 4 It
         Annunciation Liturgy

Thu: Leaders Assembly

Fri: Caritas Mufti Day/Rice Lunch
       Palm Sunday Procession

Palm Sunday/Mufti/ Rice
We will be celebrating our Palm Sunday Liturgy at 10am. We pray for fine weather so the donkey can be part of the parade this year. This will also be a mufti day - dress in the colours of the Philippines. Gold coin donation for Caritas please. Prizes for best dressed.
Rice lunch: All children will receive rice for lunch. This is to remind them that some children around the world have only a bowl of rice for their whole days’ food intake. Junior children can still bring morning tea.  This fits in really well with thinking of our global community and lent. We are aware that, for medical reasons, some children might need an extra snack.

We Love Harold!!!!!!

Life Education

We have been learning about being 'Happy and Healthy'.  We talked about all of the things that we need to stay happy and healthy.  We need to eat good food, drink water, shelter from the cold and sun, to stay clean and we need love.  We are lucky in Room 10 - we have lots of friends to love us. To be a good friend we learned how to recognise when people are happy, sad, angry... and how to treat them.  All feelings are ok - it's how we deal with our feelings that is important.

Uniform

We have had a few issues with jerseys, shoes and hats that magically disappear from our bags.  Today we did a spot check.  Out of 25 pairs of sandals we had 10 pair that were unnamed and 1 pair that was missing.  We only had 18 hats to cover 25 heads and a couple of the hats that made it to school today were unnamed, too.  Some items were named with someone elses name and some things had nail polish or similar so that the owner can recognise it.  Everything that comes to school must be named with the wearers name so that it can be returned to them when it walks away.  Please, please, please, check your child's uniform and clearly name everything.

Week 5

Mon:
Tue:
Wed: Go 4 It Programme
Thu: Gala Day
Fri: Library
       Golden Time

No Swimming this week but we do have Go 4 It - bring PE gear if you have it.  Girls will find it much easier without flying dresses getting in the way.

Gala Day
It's always an exciting week when the Gala rolls around.  Please keep bringing in your gala donations - much appreciated.  Our incredible Gala organisers are still looking for helpers.  There are sign up sheets in the hall foyer OR you can find their phone numbers in the newsletters.

Library
We love our library time - as the slideshow below shows - but we had a large number of children forget their books this week.  "Mum forgot to put it in my bag" was the most common explanation. They were gently reminded that Mum was not the person who checked the book out.

Golden Time
I have a great Golden Time planned.  I will answer 5 yes/no questions each day to see if you can figure out what we will be doing.  It is likely to carry on through the weekend - I apologise in advance to mums, dads, grandparents...
