Oh My Goodness!!!!

This afternoon Mrs T got tough!  She has been reminding us to pack our bags properly and zip them up.  This helps to keep our area safe and it keeps our stuff safe.  BUT...

Mrs T went and collected all of the bags that were left unzipped after lunch.  Only 4 people had managed to keep their bags zipped up.  Well done Thomas, Rose, Sophie and Tilde!!!  You are wonderful.  The rest of you need to practice packing your bags for homework.

the school. A notice was sent home on Thursday with the list of jobs and if you are able to
help please indicate the jobs you might be able to help with and return the form back to
SCHOOL WORKING BEE: 8.00AM -12 NOON THIS SATURDAY. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

Year 2 Parents Meeting:  Google Apps for Education Accounts and Chromebooks.

You may or may not be aware that in 2014, with the support of our Board of Trustees, we introduced Google Apps for Education accounts for all our Year 3 and 4 students. Since June 2014 we have allowed students to bring a Chromebook to school.

This programme was expanded In 2015, so now all our students in Year 3-6 have Google Apps for Education accounts and a large number of the students bring their own Chromebook to school. This has resulted in all our Middle School students having access to a device, which is used on a daily basis for learning purposes.

Some common questions parents have are:
Why have we done this?
What is a Chromebook? What can you do on them? Why this particular device? Can my child bring a different device?
What is a Google Apps for Education account? Why and how are students using this to help them with their learning? Aren't Year 3 students too young for this?
Is it worth buying a device for my child? How much do they use it in class? What are the benefits of bringing a personally owned device to school?
Where can I buy one? How much do they cost? Which model should I get?

On Monday 16 November, our Elearning Lead Teachers, along with some of our 2016 Middle School Teachers, will provide an information session to help parents gain a better understanding of how and why we are utilising Google Apps for Education accounts, along with devices, to assist our students with their learning.

On Friday all Year 2 students were given a notice to take home. In case this notice never reached you, this is what it said.

Notice for Parents of 2015 Year 2 students

On Monday night we are holding an information evening for parents who have children who will be in Year 3 classes at St Mary’s in 2016

When: Monday 16 November
Where: Room 14
Time: 6pm - 6.45pm
Purpose: To provide parents with a better understanding of why and how  students use Chromebooks and Google Apps accounts in our Year 3-4 classrooms.

We hope you are able to attend.

HELP!!!!!

A camera belonging to a Grandparent was lost at school last Friday. The camera is a Panasonic LUMIX.  It is silver and in a black hard case. There are also a few accessories inside the case - adaptors and memory sticks. The family are very keen to have the two memory sticks returned as these contain precious family photos. Ella in Room 14 would love to hear from anyone who can assist with locating these items.

Writing

Today we watched this short video: A reluctant boy gets more than he asked for in a ball pit. Will he conquer his fears to escape the adventure he finds himself in?

We wrote stories about a time when we had to conquer a fear.  We thought about the feelings and thoughts we experienced in the moment and all of the things that we could see and hear around us.  Sometimes our imagination makes small things look really big so we got a little bit creative.

Mrs T is super proud of our writing so she is flat out typing our work to share with the world on the blog - watch this space!

Library Day
Golden Time

Kapa Haka
The final countdown to Ahurei is now on.  The performance on Grand-friends day was wonderful!  I'm really looking forward to seeing our clever kids on stage next week.

Library
I have been given a printout from the library records which shows how many books each child has "beeped out" and how many of these are fiction/non-fiction. A few kids have really not made the most of the library - please make sure books come back each week so that we can promote reading and help to widen their reading horizons.

Golden Time
'Old School' games.  Four square, elastics, hopscotch... you remember them.  Mrs Power (Oliver's Mum) is going to be teaching in Room 10 on Friday - if you would like to come along and help out I'm sure she would appreciate it.

Grand-friends Day
Thank you all so much for your support of this day.  We had a HUGE number of visitors and all of the kids performed beautifully.  Some of our talented friends were in two or more performances - clever kids!  It was a really lovely day.  Sorry, we were running late at 3:00 - we were having so much fun in the pool that we completely missed the bells.
